Daisy's Story

I made it to my house on Tuesday, and I lost everything.  I had 4 feet of water in my house.  I LOST EVERYTHING.  My furniture has already fallen apart, and the mold is 5 feet high.  It was worse than heartbreaking, and I just hope I can salvage my shell.  In my favor is the fact that my house is made (mostly I think) of cypress.  I have to save my shell as I will never have enough insurance money to rebuild with 12 foot ceilings [more]

Michele's Story

Well..I am crying while I type this.I cannot begin to tell you or even describe what I have witnessed. My heart is shattered and I am feeling as though it will always be that way. I did NOT want to leave New Orleans yesterday!! I cried and cried because I knew I was leaving behind thousands of trapped animals and felt as though I just hadn't done enough. I can't get the horrible images out of my head and I can't sleep. I knew this would happen to me as I was fully aware of what I was getting myself into but I just can't seem to find any peace. RenewNOLA would like to recognize the fundraising efforts of the Duran Duran fan club. They were in town in October for the Voodoo Music Fest and did a fantastic job raising over $2,600 for RenewNOLA. Thank you Duranies. We appreciate you!

The Duran Duran - RenewNOLA charity drive started on June 1, 2006 by four members of the Duran Duran Fan Club. With the excitement of Duran Duran performing at the Voodoo Music Experience, we decided to organize a fundraising drive in order to give back to New Orleans and to contribute to the rebuilding.

With the help of the fans of www.duranduranmusic.com, Duran Duran’s official web site -- www.duranduran.com, and our families and friends we were able to surpass our fundraising expectations. We were especially fortunate to have support from DDM by posting our drive information on the front page of the fan club along with also allowing us to post a link that led directly to our donation pay pal account. Along with Katy from Ask Katy on DD.com and Duran Duran we were given pieces of memorabilia that we were able to auction on EBay. All of those proceeds were included in our fundraising drive.

There were also fans that went above and beyond the call of duty. In particular, Jenny C donated the proceeds from selling blue Hurricane Katrina Bracelets, our own CJ sold memorabilia and donated her proceeds to our drive effort, and many others counted pennies to be able to at least donate monetarily to the drive. It didn't matter how big or small a donation was given. All was welcome and appreciated by everyone who participated in our fundraising efforts.

Being a part of this drive was amazing. We were literally four strangers coming together to give back to a city that had recently been through so much. Even so, New Orleans was by far one of the best city's traveled through DD tours and had the most amazing energy.

Our success was because of the fans of Duran Duran. They have built a community on their fan sites that has become like a family. We laugh, we play, we argue and we especially come together in times of need to help others.

Giving to RenewNOLA and seeing New Orleans was by far one of the most memorable moments of the year. Not to mention, the great performance Duran Duran put on at the Voodoo music fest!

I was adopted as an infant and just recently searched and found my birth mother, who is and has been a resident of New Orleans most of her life. She was fortunate enough to have escaped most of the effects of Hurricane Katrina, however other family members weren't as fortunate. Since then we have been communicating back and forth via e-mail...and the pictures & video clips I have seen are needless to say a travesty. I hope this fundraiser will bring more than enough revenue to rebuild New Orleans stronger than before as a city and as a community!
Mark Phoenix, AZ
